A full day in York with personal tuition from Chris Ceaser

The perfect way to improve your photography. Spend a full day in the company of professional landscape photographer Chris Ceaser and receive plenty of friendly, individual personal tuition that will take your landscape photography to a higher level.

You will need your camera and a tripod. For info on ND Grad filters (which we use to balance the exposure between brighter skies and normally darker foregrounds) give me a call on 07920 044094. These are not essential but WILL make a big difference when shooting scenes which include the sky. We have sets of LEE Filters to loan out on the day! - PLEASE ASK about these.

Aimed directly at Digital SLR/Mirrorless cameras etc., users the courses are carefully designed to cover essential techniques such as controlling exposure, focus techniques, compositional technique, controlling depth of field, use of filters etc, metering the light, understanding the histogram etc, etc. The workshops will offer a blend of discussion and practice out in the field, with the emphasis firmly on taking photographs. Indeed, the only time we will stop working in the field is to break for lunch and coffees.

The course content is flexible and therefore suited to photographers of all abilities ranging from competent camera club members to the most humble beginner. 1-to-1 tuition allows Chris to spend plenty of personal time with each person, ensuring you progress at your own speed. The workshops are informal and friendly and begin with a nice relaxing coffee as we plan the day ahead. The only things you would need are your camera and a tripod, although a set of Neutral Density Grad filters would be hugely beneficial with regard to balancing the exposure between brighter skies and darker foregrounds. Cost

Meeting at an agreed place in York, we will be working around this beautiful city, shooting along the river, the Minster area and the beautiful Museum Gardens areas.

Course cost: £385 per day which covers all 1-to-1 tuition on the day.

What's included?

Courses run over a whole day, starting at a time we agree. You can expect to be out in the field shooting with Chris for around 6-7 hours on these courses.

After an initial meeting over a complimentary coffee we will head off into the landscape. All tuition by Chris is included. There are no extras to pay. All you need to bring is a packed lunch, or simply buy a sandwich/salad etc on the day. The day will finish over a final Q&A session perhaps over a coffee to answer any niggling questions.

What's not included?

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE INSURANCE IN PLACE TO COVER NON-ATTENDANCE IN CASE OF ILLNESS, DAMAGE TO KIT ETC.

The course cost does not include transport to and from the location nor any insurances for you or your kit. Lunches and drinks (after the first, complimentary coffee) are not included. Most people bring packed lunch or grab something at the lunchtime cafe break.

Your payment will be needed to confirm the booking. Courses cannot, unfortunately, be re-arranged due to Chris' work commitments although in cases of extreme weather (Heavy snows, blizzards, undriveable conditions etc) then Chris will be happy to re-arrange. In cases of rainy/drizzly/overcast days then the courses will run as normal as we can make images in these conditions. Cancellation policy

All deposits* are non-refundable
Chris Ceaser Photography does not offer cancellation refunds. Please take out adequate insurance to cover cancellations due to ill health, jury service etc. Please ask for recommendations and see below.

Insurances and refunds:
YOU are responsible for your own insurances. This needs to cover you and your kit for things such as emergency illness whilst away, theft of your kit, inability to travel due to illness etc. Should you not be able to travel at the time of the course you will need to claim on your own insurance. Chris will provide you with an invoice and a letter confirming you did not attend. There is NO refund should you cancel after paying your deposits and balances. This is why you need your own insurances in place.

WE are covered under our own EVENT INSURANCE in the case that Chris cannot attend (due to illness, etc). This also covers the whole group in case of travel being impossible (due to severe weather etc). It is important to understand that the insurance company MUST declare travel unsafe for this to come into force. If Chris can make it to the course location then the course is deemed to have started so you are back to claiming on your own insurances, cover permitting. (We did reimburse the group during the 'Beast From the East' in 2018, when we were advised by our insurers that travel was not safe)

Our event insurance is quite comprehensive, but it does NOT cover things such as rainy weather, overcast weather etc. In these cases the course goes ahead, just like a normal booked holiday would. Make sure you or any operator you may use has such EVENT insurances in place or you may risk losing your money. You still need your OWN insurances in place to cover you and your kit (policies can cost as little as £9 for £5000 cover). Contact Chris on 07920 044094 to chat about insurances. You may already have such insurances in place, with your bank for example, but please check the policies cover you in case of illness or theft of kit either abroad or at home.

Chris runs his courses on a personal basis and normally provides all tuition etc personally. However, Chris Ceaser Photography reserves the right to replace instructors in the event of illness, emergency or death.

I attended a York workshop with Chris, on a gloriously sunny late Autumn day. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal, and I felt I could ask any question, however basic. Chris took us to a variety of locations presenting challenges in composition, focusing and aperture selection, and gave us a structure for dealing with each challenge. He gave guidance and made constructive comments about our choices of composition, without stifling our own ideas or creativity. Chris talks about photography in a way that makes it accessible not shying away from the technical terms, but de-mystifying them in a refreshing manner. A thoroughly enjoyable workshop, I know I will use the techniques I picked up to improve my photography, but most of all to continue to enjoy it. Karen Coombes
